"Oh No You Didn’t" Public Service Announcement YouTube Competition

Create a 30 second public service announcement about the dangers of binge drinking, and see your video on the JumboTron at the MSU vs. Ole Miss basketball game and on YouTube. You must be a student to participate.

Rules

Judging:
Dr. Yates, Dr. Heiselt, and Health Education and Wellness Graduate Assistants will judge the competition

Eligibility:
Participants must be currently enrolled Mississippi State University Students. By participating, entrants agree to the following Official Video Contest Rules. The decision of the judges is final and binding in all respects. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest.

How to Enter:
Record a 30 second video about underage (under 21) drinking or binge drinking. The video must be no more than 30 seconds and contain the catch phrase "Oh No You Didn’t!" It must also contain one of the following alcohol facts (also found on the Stay Dry! website: www.under21staydry.com):

  • Getting caught using a fake ID can cost you a $500 fine and up to six months in jail.
  • Only 34% of MSU students admit to drinking one or more times per week.
  • If you drink and drive you run the risk of taking someone else’s life and being charged with manslaughter.
  • If you drink and drive you can lose your driver’s license if you are charged with a DUI.
  • If you drink and drive you can face a fine from $250 - $5,000.
  • If you drink and drive you can lose the ability to get certain jobs.
  • Drinking coffee, eating food, or taking a cold shower cannot help you sober up.
  • The only thing that can sober you up after drinking is time.
  • 12 ounces of beer is equal to 5 ounces of wine and a 1 ounce shot of hard liquor.
  • Alcohol is partially to blame in 95% of all falls off of roofs on college campuses.
  • Alcohol is partially to blame in 95% of all falls out of windows on college campuses.
  • The legal limit for “driving under the influence” is .08%.
  • The combination of alcohol and energy drinks increases the likelihood of hangovers.
  • Excessive drinking has been linked to heart disease, strokes, and heart failure.
  • A raised tolerance allows your body to physically mask the effects of alcohol.
  • A person must be at least 21 to bartend, handle, or transport alcohol.
  • A person must be at least 21 to sell beer, wine, or spirits.
  • At MSU, most alcohol-related incidents in the fall occur during the months of August and September.

The video will be used as part of an alcohol abuse prevention campaign, and it may NOT contain obscene language or nudity. By 5 p.m. on 2/14/11, entering videos must be uploaded to YouTube, and a link must be sent to Dr. April Heiselt via email (ah384@msstate.edu ). In the body of the email, please include your name (or group name), physical address, phone number, and email address. All entries must ALSO be submitted on DVD or flash drive to Dr. Heiselt’s office, Allen Hall, room 509A. Only one entry will be accepted per group /individual and can be submitted from only one email address. DVDs and flash drives will not be returned to you once the contest is over.

Contest Period:
The contest will run from 1/17/11 through 2/14/11 at 5 p.m. No entries will be accepted before 1/17/11 or after 2/14/11.

User Conditions:
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition and the officers, agents, employees, and assigns, harmless from and against any and all claims, demands, suits, judgments, losses or expenses of any nature whatsoever (including attorney’s fees) arising directly or indirectly from the contest.
By entering the Contest or submitting the Contest materials, you represent and warrant to Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition, the Contest materials and everything depicted in the Contest materials, are wholly original and do not infringe upon or otherwise violate any right of any person, firm or entity, including, without limitation, and that nothing in the Contest materials is defamatory; you have all rights, licenses, permissions, and consents necessary to submit the Contest materials in the Contest in accordance with these Official Rules; and no person other than you, nor any entity, has any right, title or interest in and to any part of the Contest materials.

Prize:
The winning student or group's video will be played on the JumboTron at the MSU vs. Ole Miss basketball game on 2/19/11. The top three videos will be posted on the Stay Dry! website: www.under21staydry.com.

Notifications:
Winners will be notified via email on 2/17/11.

Restrictions:
Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition, its representatives, agencies and employees are not responsible for any changes or difficulties in travel or prize delivery. By participating, persons agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges and the official contest rules. Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition reserves the right to amend these rules at any time without any additional or advance notice. These rules may not be modified, except in writing, and then, only by a representative of Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition. Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to limit the number of entrants whose submission is posted on the website and to remove any submissions that it has posted. You further agree that Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition has the right to modify, edit, adapt, and electronically alter the contest materials, including your submission, as well as reproduce it/them, in whole or in part, without compensation or further notice to entrant, for any purpose, including without limitations, for use on the website, or otherwise.

Conditions:
Stay Dry Mississippi Coalition is not responsible for and is not liable for: (1) any lost, late, incomplete, invalid, un-intelligible or misdirect submissions, which are void and will be disqualified; (2) telephone, telecommunications, hardware, or third party software malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (3) any failed, partial or garbled computer transmissions, or for technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to electronic malfunction or damage of any network, hardware or software. Watch Dawgs T-shirt Design Competition

Open to all MSU residence halls

Hungry? Want a free pizza party? Get together with some friends and create a t-shirt that uses the MSU Alcohol Policy and binge drinking statistics to show students under 21 the dangers and realities of alcohol use and abuse. The winning design will be printed and distributed across campus, and the residence hall with the winning designer gets a pizza party!

Information to residents

The Stay Dry! Mississippi Coalition of Partners in Prevention along with the MSU Department of Housing and Residence Life invite you to participate in the first Stay Dry! t-shirt design competition! The goal of the competition is to create awareness among MSU students about the dangers of binge drinking (consuming more than four drinks a night at a party or bar) and drinking alcohol before the legal age of 21. The hall with the winning designer will receive free t-shirts with the winning design and a free pizza party. T-shirts with the winning design will also be worn by the MSU Watch Dawgs student group.

Rules

Designs should include:

  • a front pocket and back of the shirt
  • The Stay Dry! web address (www.under21staydry.com)
  • Stay Dry! logo (found on the website)
  • At least 4 alcohol facts (see below and the “Did You Know” section of the website)
  • No profanity or any disturbing material may be used.
  • Designs must be centered on alcohol education and binge drinking.
  • Should be appropriate for both male and female wear.
  • To keep the shirts cost effective to print, please use no more than two ink colors. Designs that use more than two separate ink colors will be disqualified.
  • "Upon entering a design in the competition, participants must complete a survey found in 118 Herbert Hall. Staff at Herbert Hall will initial the back of your design, once the survey has been completed. Designs without the initials of Herbert Hall staff will be disqualified.
  • All designs must be submitted by 5 p.m. on 9/3/10 to 118 Herbert Hall.

Keep in Mind

  • The design will be printed on a colored shirt.
  • When submitting your design, please include your name, name of your residence hall, cell or room phone number, email address, and the name of your resident assistant.
  • The design submitted can be drawn on paper or created through a software design program (one method is not preferable to the other).
