Mississippi State University is partnering with the Mississippi Coalition of Partners in Prevention (MCPP) in hopes of creating a safer campus for our students. It is important to us that our students are informed with the facts on suicide and alcohol and drug misuse. No lectures, no hype, just the facts.
Students, #SpreadTheFacts about suicide and alcohol and drug misuse to help create a safer campus and healthier student body. According to www.fit.edu, alcohol and drugs contribute to over 50 percent of all suicides and over 50 percent of all violent crimes. Individuals in between the ages of 16 and 24 are involved in more than one third of all alcohol related traffic accidents. Remember to always have a designated driver! #SpreadTheFacts and make Ole Miss safer. According to www.fit.edu, alcohol is the most widely used drug in America and 95 percent of all college campus violence is alcohol related. Don’t give in, don’t use and don’t abuse. @MCPP

Students, according to www.fit.edu, 28 percent of all college dropouts are alcohol users. Stay in school and say no to drugs and alcohol. Times are changing and now teens are more likely to use e-cigarettes than cigarettes. #SpreadTheFacts #DrugFreeBulldogs @MCPP

Students, remember to never drink and drive. Always designate a sober driver, DD’s are for me! According to www.fit.edu, between 1986 and 1996, DWI arrests were highest for 21-year-olds. Don’t be a statistic. Be the change. Safe lives and think before you drink. #SpreadTheFacts @MCPP
Students, suicide is the third leading cause of death for college-age youth and those ages 12-18. Be aware of those around you and be a friend to someone in need. If you are feeling depressed or need someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with the Ole Miss counseling center, located at 554 Fraternity Row. According to the Jason Foundation, more teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza and chronic lung disease COMBINED. Students, Did you know that 51.3 percent of adults, ages 18 and older are currently regular drinkers? This means that they have had at least 12 drinks within the past year.
12.9 percent of adults, ages 18 and older are currently infrequent drinkers. This means that they have had 1-11 drinks within the past year. Everyone work to drink less and be healthy! #SpreadTheFacts @MCPP
Students, remember that being drug free is always the way to be! Lets keep on spreading the facts about drug misuse! Did you know that 9.2 percent of people, ages 12 and over have had illicit drug use in the past month? Students, in a survey conducted in 2012, it was reported that 2.6 percent of people, ages 12 and over, had used a nonmedical psychotherapeutic drug within the past month. Kids are trying drugs at a young age, be an example to them and just say no #DrugFreeBulldogs #SpreadTheFacts @MCPP
The National Institute on Drug Abuse reported that after marijuana, prescription and over-the-counter medications account for most of the top drugs abused by twelfth graders in the past year. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reported that 35 percent of twelfth graders have used marijuana in the past year. The NIDA also reported that 6.8 percent of twelfth graders have used Adderall in the past year. Remember that drug free is the way to be #SpreadTheFacts @MCPP
Did you know? According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, almost two thirds, which is nearly 64 percent of high school seniors do not view regular marijuana use as harmful. According to the Jason Foundation, each day in our nation, there are an average of over 5,400 suicide attempts by young people grades 7-12. If you see someone in pain, be a friend. If you yourself are experiencing depression or mixed feelings, all you have to do is seek help. We are all here for each other at Mississippi State University.
